SMOKING: A WHOLE ART

FUMER : TOUT UN ART

S ometimes people say that certain places have good vibes, probably because they are made up of authenticity and balance, and because those who bring them to life add a little extra soul. The Monte-Carlo Cigar Club is one of those places. And it’s not just because it occupies the former offices of François Blanc, founder of the Société des Bains de Mer, in the heart of the Monte-Carlo Casino, or because its refurbishment was engineered by renowned architects Moinard Bétaille in collaboration with humidor specialist DeARt. Two men enchant the Monte-Carlo Cigar Club. Director Jean Thomas and master cigar sommelier Adrien Dalang live out their passion here. The former is Belgian, the latter Swiss. The two men put all their heart and expertise into making the club, with its 35,000 cigars and 250 references, a gentle haven for their members and guests. Adrien Dalang learned his trade at the National Tobacco Institute of the Dominican Republic, where he graduated in 2022. There, a “vocation” was born, also supported by Dominique London, a partner of the Monte-Carlo Cigar Club. With a particularly benevolent personality, Adrien Dalang bases the cigar experience on three fundamentals: taste, time, and the person’s mood. “I’m not selling a cigar but trying to help the client choose it based on the present moment. When they leave with a smile, that’s my greatest reward.” ■ Alongside director Jean Thomas, Adrien Dalang, a master cigar sommelier, offers members and guests a moment of rare subtlety, where refinement and expertise combine to exalt the taste.

“A cigar should be smoked calmly. Kept at 20 degrees and 70% humidity, it is moist, and the smoke is fresh in the mouth; this allows you to enjoy a maximum of aromas.”

« Un cigare doit se fumer calmement. Conservé à 20 degrés et à 70 % d’hydrométrie, il est humide et la fumée est fraîche en bouche ; ce qui permet de profiter d’un maximum d’arômes. » Adrien Dalang, master cigar sommelier
