Hommage à Oum Kalthoum par Ibrahim Maalouf Comme de tradition, l’ouverture de cette 19 e édition est confiée à l’Académie Rainier-III, pour un concert le 20 novembre avec les élèves musiciens. Une façon de célébrer la transmission de l’excellence via une grande diversité d’instruments et de jeunes talents. Le 21 novembre, Gabi Hartmann inaugure une soirée à la croisée du jazz, de la folk et de la bossa-nova. Nourrie de ses voyages entre le Brésil et New York, la chanteuse parisienne se distingue par sa voix veloutée. En seconde partie, Ibrahim Maalouf revient avec un projet acoustique à la mémoire d’Oum Kalthoum. Le trompettiste franco-libanais revisite les morceaux de la diva égyptienne dans un esprit jazz. Ibrahim Maalouf est un habitué de la scène monégasque. «Cette confiance entre le Monte-Carlo Jazz Festival et les artistes nous permet d’accueillir leurs nouveaux projets pour des performances uniques» , souligne Reno di Matteo.

Stanley Clarke and Deluxe for the same evening A change of atmosphere on the 22 nd with Stanley Clarke, a monument of electric and double bass who has played with the greatest, from Quincy Jones to Herbie Hancock. He will play the first part for Deluxe , a French collective with a rare musical recipe, a festive hybridisation of hip-hop, funk, electro, and groove. Listening to the genealogies of jazz, the festival welcomes the Harlem Gospel Choir on 23 rd November, an emblematic Afro-American gospel ensemble for over 40 years. Through a very spiritual and committed repertoire, the choir affirms gospel’s heritage as the matrix of vocal jazz. On the 24 th , the Institut audiovisuel de Monaco, under Vincent Vatrican’s leadership, also offers a screening that will highlight the role of jazz in cinema.

Stanley Clarke et Deluxe pour une même soirée Changement d’ambiance le 22 novembre avec Stanley Clarke, monument de la basse électrique et contrebasse qui a joué avec les plus grands, de Quincy Jones à Herbie Hancock. Il sera en première partie de Deluxe, collectif français à la recette musicale rare, hybridation de hip-hop, funk, électro et groove en mode festif. À l’écoute des généalogies du jazz, le festival accueille le 23 novembre le Harlem Gospel Choir, ensemble emblématique du gospel afro-américain depuis plus de 40 ans. À travers un répertoire très spirituel et engagé, le chœur affirme l’héritage du gospel comme matrice du jazz vocal. Le 24 novembre, l’Institut audiovisuel de Monaco propose une projection qui mettra en lumière le rôle du jazz au cinéma.

Monty Alexander and regional popular music Returning to the stage on 26 th November with an evening of Afro-Caribbean resonances, from syncopated groove to Latin lyricism. With his jazz tinged with calypso and reggae, pianist Monty Alexander will open the evening for Yuri Buenaventura, a figure of romantic salsa. The Colombian pianist and singer, who stole hearts with his Latin cover of Ne me quitte pas, sings about love with his album Amame and its dance hits. On 27 th November, the festival combines two projects with subtle sounds: the Swiss Lea Maria Fries, trained in jazz in Lucerne and who cites Radiohead as well as the new soul scene, then Morcheeba, a brilliant British trip-hop group fronted by the voice of Skye Edwards.
