Music Musique
TRAVERSÉES MUSICALES DE HAUTE VOLÉE
Drawing from the history of jazz, the festival explores its related sounds and contemporary variations. This 19th edition renews the connections between styles and generations. A sure bet for jazz enthusiasts, the Monte-Carlo Jazz Festival is open to music that shares its logic of improvisation, fusion, and popular roots. Between blues, soul, funk, gospel, as well as trip-hop, salsa, and electronic music, it creates a map of world rhythms by multiplying perspectives. “We want this festival to be a source of encounters. People come for one artist and discover another in the first or second part. This eclectic programme invites travel into new sound universes, in the elegant and festive atmosphere of the Opéra Garnier” , explains Alfonso Ciulla, co-director of the event with Reno Di Matteo.

Tribute to Oum Kalthoum by Ibrahim Maalouf As is traditional, the opening of this 19th edition is going to be a concert on 20 th November performed by the student musicians of the Académie Rainier III. It is a way of celebrating the transmission of excellence through a wide variety of instruments and young talents. On the 21 st , Gabi Hartmann will be opening an evening of music that mixes jazz, folk, and bossa nova. Shaped by her travels between Brazil and New York, the Parisian singer stands out with her velvet voice. In the second half, Ibrahim Maalouf returns with an acoustic project in memory of Oum Kalthoum. The Franco-Lebanese trumpeter reinterprets the Egyptian diva’s songs in a jazz style. Ibrahim Maalouf is a frequent performer on the Monegasque stage. “This trust between the Monte-Carlo Jazz Festival and the artists allows us to welcome their new projects for unique performances,” underlines Reno di Matteo.
