L’exposition « Le Mariage du siècle » révèle les coulisses inédites de l’extraordinaire union princière pour son 70 e anniversaire. L e souverain et la star hollywoodienne annoncèrent leurs fiançailles le 6 janvier 1956 à Philadelphie. Trois mois plus tard, les caméras du monde entier se braquaient vers la Principauté pour le mariage du Prince Rainier III et de Grace Kelly. C’est cette union, médiatisée au point de devenir un événement planétaire, que retrace l’exposition « Le mariage du siècle » jusqu’au 15 octobre dans les Grands Appartements du Palais Princier de Monaco, également dans l’Atrium du Casino de Monte-Carlo jusqu’à début septembre et à l’Institut Audiovisuel de Monaco jusqu’à fin mars 2027. « Cela a été un véritable tour de force logistique. Grace Kelly avait deux films à terminer en studio et le Prince a commencé à donner ses instructions par écrit depuis New York et Los Angeles, en veillant à chaque détail », racontent Thomas Fouilleron, directeur des Archives du Palais Princier, et Vincent Vatrican, directeur de l’Institut audiovisuel de Monaco, commissaires de l’exposition. Photos, vidéos, bijoux, robes et documents personnels, dont certains sont exposés pour la toute première fois, font revivre la magie de huit jours de fête, du 12 au 19 avril 1956.

The exhibition “ Le Mariage du siècle ” (“ The Wedding of the Century ”) unveils behind-the-scenes stories from the remarkable royal wedding, commemorating its 70 th anniversary. T he sovereign and the Hollywood star announced their engagement on 6 January 1956 in Philadelphia. Three months later, cameras from all over the world turned towards the Principality for the wedding of Prince Rainier III and Grace Kelly. It is this union, so widely covered by the media that it became a global event, that the exhibition “ Le Mariage du Siècle ” retraces until 15 October in the Grand Apartments of the Prince’s Palace of Monaco, also in the Atrium of the Monte-Carlo Casino until early September and at the Monaco Audiovisual Institute until the end of March 2027. “ It was a truly logistical feat. Grace Kelly still had two films to complete at the studio, while the Prince began conveying instructions in writing from New York and Los Angeles, supervising every detail, ” explains Thomas Fouilleron, Director of the Prince’s Palace Archives, and Vincent Vatrican, Director of the Audiovisual Institute of Monaco, the exhibition’s curators. Photographs, film footage, jewellery, dresses, and personal documents— some of which are being shown for the very first time—bring to life the magic of eight days of celebrations from 12 to 19 April 1956.
